Some eight years ago, the first 3G network in the world was launched by NTT DOCOMO,the Japanese mobile operator .And the count of the customers of the 3G network reached the 500 million mark yesterday.
It has to be remembered that the fixed phone networks took more than a century and the 2G mobile networks required a decade to reach the milestone of 500 million customers globally.
Around 300 UMTS networks with more than 35 HSPA networks having over 200 million customers are present worldwide.
Around 40 percent of the subscribers of the 3G network could also make good use of the high speeds of data transfer that is available in the HSPA technology
While 3G is successfully scaling peaks and milestones, the technology of 4G is in its budding stage with TeliaSonera launching the first LTE network that is available commercially, some month’s ago.Atleast forty such networks will be made available globally by the year 2012
