The joint venture of the Software Giant Microsoft and Social Network Giant Facebook is going to be a success story. Microsoft and Facebook today made public the partnership of the two giants. The two will work together to incorporate some features of social networking into search engines. ‘Liked Results is a social feature that uses Facebook ‘likes’ to inform you about the recommendations of your friends and this will be the first feature to be integrated. For instance, if you are looking for a certain book, the search results will bring you opinions of your friends about that particular book and recommendations for other books of the same writer.
‘Facebook Profile Results is the second feature being introduced by Microsoft and Facebook. This feature will make your search for people more specific and precise. Say you’re looking for a friend, the search engine will only show you people with that name that are in one way or the other linked to the people in your contact list.
Account confidentiality is one feature that people constantly demand. For Liked Results, you won’t be shown any private information only one that is made public says Microsoft. The only information made visible is the one that is presented at your network of friends.
You will receive updates from Bing upon the activation of new features, which will let you add or disable the new and old features as you like. The new features on Facebook are made accessible only for users aged 18 and above. Your information that you search for will not be made public for others to view and you will be required to log in to Facebook to view your private results.
According to reports these new features will be launched soon. We heard rumors of Microsoft purchasing Facebook, although that didn’t happen; it did result in Redmond owning 1.6 percent stake in Facebook for $240 million.
