The all so popular VLC app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has been kicked out of its house. By that I mean, it has been removed from the App Store after Apple received the official copyright infringement complain from VLC developers. The developers behind the popular VLC Media Player claims that the iOS version of VLC available in the App Store is “violating GNU public license under which VLC is released by applying DRM to it”.

It really is a shame that VLC had to go like this, in my opinion its is so far the best media player for iOS. Thats because it can virtually play any thing. But the good news is it has found a new home at rpetri.ch/repo repository in Cydia. Simply add http://rpetri.ch/repo as a source in Cydia to download VLC for iOS for free. For that you of course need a jailbroken iPhone.
