Last year, Facebook rolled out support for 360-degree videos that enabled its users to share videos with a 360-degree view of the scenery captured. The viewers at home get to take a look at the video’s perspective through different angles and create an immersive atmosphere. If you’re on a vacation and want to capture the beauty of the Niagara Falls and share it with your friends on Facebook, you can do this with a 360-degree video.
How to Capture a 360-degree Photo
First things first. You will need to know how to capture the 360-degree video you wish to share on social media. To do this, you will need to use a camera with 360 or spherical camera system. If you don’t have one, you can download the free Street View camera app developed by Google for both Android and iOS devices. Once the app has been downloaded, you just need to capture the scenery by following the instructions on your screen.
Apart from Google’s Street View camera app, there are plenty of other tools you can use to record 360-degree videos; some of which include Panorama mode on an iPhone device, Surround Shot mode on a Samsung device, or Google’s Cardboard Camera from a virtual reality device.
How to Upload 360-degree Photo on Facebook
After you have captured the content you wish to share on your 360-degree video, the next thing to do is to upload it on Facebook. Here is a step by step guide to accomplish this:
- From the Status tab, tap on Photo. This will open the photos you have captured recently. Pick the 360-degree video you created.
- Make the necessary post settings so you can decide whom to share the video with. Tap Post when you’re done.
- Once Facebook has finished uploading your video, you can start viewing it with a 360-degree option. If you’re on a computer, you can use your mouse to scroll throughout the video. Meanwhile, if you’re using a smartphone, you simply have to move your phone around to be able to look at the different directions available on the 360-degree video.
360-degree videos have a maximum file size of 5GB and a duration of 30 minutes.
